Valerie Hotzfeld (NV9L) will be speaking at the Central Illinois Skywarn Meeting about the deployment of amateur radio operators to Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria which made land-fall on September 20th, 2017.

After this catastrophic disaster hit the island, communications were completely destroyed, the amateur radio community stepped in to assist in re-establishing emergency communications back to the main-land United States.

Valerie was one of the "Force of 50" which deployed to this tiny nation to provide help wherever needed and was instrumental in providing emergency and health and wellfare communications immediately following the incident.

Hotzfeld will be speaking on October 18th, 2018 at 7:00pm at the American Red Cross building located at 1045 Outer Park Drive in Springfield in the first floor training room # 120.

Central Illinois Skywarn will be opening their monthly meeting up to the general amateur radio community to provide the opportunity for all amateur radio operators to hear about the experiences of deploying amateur radio assets in the aftermath of a disaster.

Seating is limited to 45 so we are asking attendees to please RSVP using the form at the bottom of this page.
